Welcome to my little corner of the web.  My name is Craig Douglas Gephart; you can call me Craig.  I'm an amateur photographer residing in south-central Pennsylvania.  I want to thank you for stopping by and hope you enjoy looking around the site.  On the pages of this site, you will find a number of my favorites photos; both past and present. Most were shot with a DSLR camera but some were actually taken with my iPhone.

In the beginning...

I first picked up a DSLR camera in 2008 (although back in the early 80's I shot with a 35mm film camera for a year or so  --- always in automatic/program mode).  Since 2008 a few of my photos have been given some recognition.  I entered my first (and, to date, only) photo contest, sponsored by the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership, and was awarded the Grand Prize. I was also contacted by Christian singer/songwriter/speaker, Frances Drost, about using one of my photos for a music CD cover image.  And the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) contacted me to request the use of one of my photos on their Sea Grant website.  I was also contacted about the use of a few other photos for promotional purposes and even made a few sales along the way.  Yet, in spite of recognition which I truly enjoyed (especially since it had required very little effort on my part), in 2014 I was allured by the convenience and quality of iPhone photography; it was especially useful when I took road trips on my motorcycle. As a result, my DSLR was given a spot on the shelf and I succumbed to a bit of laziness for the sake of convenience.

Fast forward and a new chapter...

In the fall of 2019, I realized I had become bored with the commonality and ease of using a smartphone camera. I missed the connectedness I felt when interacting with a DSLR - the added challenges of composing and creating in-camera and the opportunity to engage with a more complex and diverse tool.  I decided to begin a new chapter in my journey as a photographer.  However, this time I was committed to diving deeper into learning and developing my skill set as a photographer. I also made a commitment to be more intentional about simply having fun and enjoying photography rather than losing sleep over people's opinions or pursuing whatever the current flavor of success looked like on any given day.

I truly enjoy photography.  Each stage of the process, from deciding what and where I want to shoot to sitting back and looking at the finished product is therapeutic for me.  Being in the field requires me to slow down, tune in, and be more observant of the world around me.  My greatest desire, especially in the role of a nature photographer, is not to simply capture an image but to highlight God's handiwork,  how it speaks to me, and what it reveals to me about myself... and God.  It is my hope that you will get a sense of these things through my images.

In closing...

If you are interested in following my photographic journey behind the scenes -- knowing some of my thoughts about the tools I use, things I'm discovering, goals I'm pursuing -- please feel free to connect with me on my Facebook Page or Instagram.  Feel free to tell others about my photos.  It's still satisfying to know people enjoy what I do.

Lastly, if you're interested in using one of my photos for publication or promotion please don't hesitate to contact me via my Contact page on this site. Just provide your contact information and as much detail as possible.  While photography is not my vocation, I do my best to respond in a timely manner.

Thanks for stopping by!
